@starwall I thought I had seen this, but it turns out it was this horrible version

When I was emerging from my asshole atheist period, I found myself mollified after reading religious instructions for Muslims (I believe it may have come directly from the Qu'ran, but I can't say for sure) to greet your neighbours of other faiths by their traditional greetings and wish them well on their holy days. To wish Christians a happy Christmas, to wish Jews a good Shabbos. To celebrate people not in the terms of your own belief, but in terms of theirs.

re: police tactics at protests
@Zero_Democracy I've heard of union-busters explicitly hiring scabs using a similar principle: If someone from out of town crosses a picket line, or across town in a big enough city, the odds of you knowing enough to follow up and shame them for their behavior drop dramatically.
police tactics at protests
If you see a lot of cops from neighboring counties or cities at a protest: they do this because it makes specific cops more difficult to identify for locals, and cops from outside the area are slightly more willing to brutalize people they don't know. That's part of why LAPD tends to be casually cruel in its own way - a lot of LA cops live in their own white-suburban enclaves in places like Simi Valley and commute in to police communities that aren't theirs.
